mindanao_misamisMisamis Oriental is known for its great natural beauty as well as for its diverse economy that includes companies in the agriculture, forestry, steel, metal, chemicals, minerals, rubber, tourism and food-processing industries. The province is home to the 30-sq-km PHIVIDEC industrial zone and the Mindanao International Container Port, both in Tagoloan.

A new airport opened in Laguindingan last year. Misamis Oriental also has many industrial estates, including the Pueblo de Oro Information Technology Park in Cagayan de Oro. It is the only PEZA-registered IT park in Mindanao.

Showcasing tourism potential

Yevgeny Vincente B. Emano, Governor, has ambitious plans for the province. He says, “We want to showcase Misamis Oriental’s tourism potential to the world through attracting FDI in tourism projects. I support the Philippines’ Department of Tourism and Secretary Jimenez in efforts to showcase ‘unpolished gems of tourism’. We also want to attract technology-driven startups that will grow along with our province. We need more private-sector partners who are proactive about development.”

Governor Emano, who is known for launching educational projects when he was a mayor and a congressman, is also committed to maintaining peace and order and to improving the lives of local residents. He says, “We have many natural resources, including rivers with hydropower potential, yet many of our people go hungry and sleep in the dark. I want to feed our people in the light.”

The governor puts the emphasis on tourism because of Misamis Oriental’s many attractions, most of which have not yet been exploited. These include waterfalls, rivers, adventure-tourism and island-hopping opportunities, many beautiful and pristine white-sand beaches, a world-class 18-hole golf course along with many other sports facilities, and a rich cultural heritage.
