Innovative Enterprise Building for Tomorrow
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC), launched in 1980 as the Maldives’ first public company, has positioned itself as the country’s leading marine and land transport-services provider as well as the top civil and marine construction enterprise.
Steadily diversifying its portfolio over the years, MTCC is now involved in road construction, coastal-protection projects, surveying, building construction, sheet piling, dredging and land reclamation as well as in providing modern transport and logistics services. MTCC is also strongly committed to corporate social responsibility projects and sponsors teachers working in local orphanages, among many other initiatives.
MTCC has put together a team of highly trained professionals and has made major investments in the latest machinery and equipment in order to meet the highest international standards. The company has reclaimed over 100,000 hectares of land over the past 15 years, dredged over 150,000 cubic meters of sand, and installed around 7.2 km of ground lighting at the Maldives’ major airports.
A number of ‘firsts’
MTCC is responsible for a number of ‘firsts’ in the Maldives, including the first beach-improvement project as well as the bathymetric surveying and sheet-piling for the first underwater restaurant of its kind in the region. The company operates the most sophisticated surveying equipment in the Maldives, including the latest real-time kinematic GPS, and can handle any type of onshore or offshore survey.
Continuing to improve infrastructure in the Maldives is a priority for MTCC, which recently began a project to build a new harbor on the island of Gemanafushi in Gaafu Alifu Atoll. Construction of the new harbor, which will be over 300 meters long and 100 meters wide, began in January 2013 and is expected to be completed in 10 months. This is just the latest in a series of MTCC’s efforts to support the economy and the people of the Maldives.
