Oman Shipping Company SAOC

World-class Shipping Services adding Value to Omani Economy

Established in 2003, Oman Shipping Company is owned 20% by Oman Oil Company and 80% by the Ministry of Finance, which means it can offer its customers the security of strong government support. OSC offers a full range of shipping services, including advisory services, developing projects, chartering vessels and handling shipments.

Tarik Al Junaidi, OSC acting CEO, explains that the company has two subsidiaries: Oman Ship Management, which currently manages 22 vessels in-house along with third-party vessels; and Oman Charter Company. OSC is currently expanding its fleet to help support Oman’s growth in exports. All its vessels are fully equipped and meet the highest technical standards.

Partnering with Industry Leaders

OSC is active in LNG transport and, to this end, partnered with Mitsui OSK Line to develop industry-leading technical standards. Having recently branched out into petrochemicals, tanker vessels and bulk carriers, OSC’s growth is set to reach new heights in the coming years. The company partners with a number of high-profile players, including ORPIC, Vale and Sohar Aluminum.

As for the future, OSC anticipates strong growth in handling bulk cargo and will continue to play a key role in helping Oman make the most of its strategic advantages as one of the region’s major transshipment hubs.

Tarik Al Junaidi points out, “We were established to add value to the economy, generate additional revenue, create jobs and educate people. Every year we sponsor ten to 20 students to study in the United Kingdom and become qualified captains and engineers. Our ambition is to see our vessels being chartered by Omani masters!”

OSC regularly works with international exporters and welcomes more joint-venture partnerships, for example in the offshore industry. Tarik Al Junaidi concludes, “Oman Shipping’s vision is to play a leading role in the development of the Sultanate’s import- and export-related industries.”
