Number One Auto Manufacturer Bullish on the Philippines

Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP), the country’s market leader in automotive manufacturing, has the widest product portfolio among auto companies in the Philippines, offering 21 different models through its sales and distribution network of more than 50 dealerships all over the country. Toyota has sold over a million vehicles in its 28-year operations in the Philippines. In 2015, it sold over 125,000 units, a record-breaking feat for the company.

Satoru Suzuki, TMP’s President, explains, “Toyota’s quality and affordability makes it possible for more Filipinos to acquire their own vehicles. Our vision is to be the number one automotive company in the country, where great people work as a team to provide the best products and service to our customers.” Toyota produces the popular Vios and Innova vehicles at its Manufacturing plant located inside the Toyota Special Economic Zone in Santa Rosa, Laguna.  The plant is capable of producing over 50,000 vehicles per year.

Commitment to CSR

TMP is well known for its exemplary corporate social responsibility commitments. The company’s Toyota Motor Philippines School of Technology (TMP Tech), opened in 2013, aims to contribute to the Philippines by making the school into a preferred human-resources development hub for the Toyota network worldwide.  This “local training entity with a global perspective,” as Mr. Suzuki puts it, reflects Toyota’s respect for the dedication and highly-competent skills of Filipino workers.

Toyota will continue to expand its operations in the Philippines, where it benefits from the government’s Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) incentives, as well as from the high quality of local human resources.  To keep the Philippine auto industry development on track, Mr. Suzuki hopes for more technology transfer from other countries, in order to localize parts, particularly in the area of electronics. As a participant to the program, TMP commits to continue to lead the way in auto manufacturing in the Philippines. Looking towards the future, he says, “TMP aims to achieve total annual sales of 200,000 units by 2020.”
