Atlas Copco

World-Class Equipment and Services for Mining Companies

Swedish group Atlas Copco has been active in Tanzania since 2002 and has made a long-term commitment to this dynamic East African market. Specializing in industrial productivity equipment, Atlas Copco established a full subsidiary in Tanzania in 2007 to focus on the mining sector.

Henry Ngugi, General Manager explains, “Atlas Copco Tanzania offers mining and exploration equipment, all produced in Sweden, Canada, US and other countries where Atlas Copco has manufacturing facilities. We also provide world-class services, including training in the use of the equipment as well as maintenance and repairs, financing and assistance to help our clients get their projects here off the ground. At Atlas Copco Tanzania, service makes the difference.”

Superb supply-chain management

Atlas Copco Tanzania has signed equipment-maintenance contracts with many of the major players in Tanzania’s mining sector, including Barrick Gold, Anglogold Ashanti and Ausdrill, and most of the exploration companies in Tanzania are using Atlas Copco equipment and consumables. Atlas Copco is known for its superb supply-chain management and efficient, reliable technical support. To better serve its customers, Atlas Copco has opened offices in Tanzania’s main mining districts in addition to its headquarters in Dar es Salaam.

Atlas Copco Tanzania plays a key role in the Tanzanian economy not only by providing employment but also by building local capacity. “We employ a mix of foreign experts and locals, but over 85% of our employees are local,” Henry Ngugi explains. Atlas Copco also supports a number of community-service projects and works closely with the Tanzanian government and local leaders.

Henry Ngugi is very positive about the future of Tanzania’s mining sector. He says, “Our fastest-growing division is our exploration equipment, so that tells you how active investors are in discovering new mining resources here in Tanzania. We expect our equipment and parts divisions to be seeing double-digit growth for the coming five years as new projects come on line.”
