Leading Banking Group Expanding Branch Network
BancABC (Africa Banking Corporation), headquartered in Botswana with activities throughout the region, has been operating in Tanzania since 2002, first focusing on corporate banking and, since 2008, also offering retail services. Bornface Nyoni, Managing Director, explains, “We continue to increase our product range in retail banking as well as our branch network. We have branches in Upanga, Kariako, Quality Centre Mall, and Arusha. We are expanding our footprint in both corporate and retail banking in Tanzania.”
For the launch of its most recent branch, in Arusha, BancABC introduced its pre-paid VISA card. “With this kind of card, our customers will always have access to funds wherever they go,” Mr. Nyoni says. BancABC has also created tailor-made services for Tanzania’s small and medium-sized enterprises, including a special program to provide loans to female entrepreneurs. BancABC contributes to a number of corporate social responsibility projects to give back to the Tanzanian community.
Focus on service and accessibility
In Tanzania’s increasingly competitive banking sector, BancABC’s edge is its exceptional customer service. “From the second a customer opens an account, we give the customer the best service we possibly can, and we also make sure the customer can always access our services. This is why we are opening more branches,” Mr. Nyoni points out. BancABC aims to open three branches a year in Tanzania to reach a total of 25 branches in the country within the next five years.
BancABC has also established a number of local and international partnerships, including with Medical Credit Fund (the Netherlands) in a program to improve local healthcare services, as well as partnerships with Vodacom and Airtel concerning mobile banking. Now BancABC is looking to form more partnerships, for example in Tanzania’s high-potential mining, tourism and energy sectors. Mr. Nyoni concludes, “We are always open to productive partnerships.”
ABC Holdings Limited is the brand name of the company registered in Botswana, which has a primary listing on the Botswana Stock Exchange and a secondary listing on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. BancABC operates in Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe and has a group services office located in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Historically, BancABC was a merchant bank offering a diverse range of services. These included wealth management, corporate banking, treasury services, leasing, asset management and stock broking. The Group is now expanding into the Retail space.
BancABC’s vision is to become Africa’s preferred banking partner by offering world-class financial solutions.
