Verifying the Legality of Sarawak Logs

sarawak_harwoodHarwood Timber Sendirian Berhad (Harwood), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), plays a major role in verifying the legality of Sarawak logs through its log endorsement process which is MS ISO 9001:2008 certified. Established in 1985, Harwood works in tandem with other State Government agencies like Sarawak Forest Department, Sarawak Forestry Corporation Sdn Bhd and STIDC in managing and accelerating the growth of the timber industry in Sarawak.

As the sole agency appointed by the Sarawak Government under Section 67 (A)(5) of the Sarawak Forest Ordinance to administer and monitor the movement of logs in Sarawak, Harwood physically inspects logs and verifies the legality of logs from the source to the final destination ie. licensed mills or export points. Harwood issues endorsement clearance certificates for domestic logs and export clearance certificates for export logs after every log inspection and plays a crucial role in the Sarawak chain of custody system.

Harwood is equipped with the latest ICT infrastructure which has linkages Statewide covering the entire Harwood operations. It has developed a comprehensive online log tracking system called HENDIS. ( Harwood Endorsement and Information System) which is able to track the details and origin of the logs.

Harwood takes pride in delivering professional, valued added and excellent service to the timber industry and will continuously strive to meet the expectation of its customers and stakeholders. Harwood mission is to be one of the key players on the sustainable management of Sarawak timber resources as well as a partner of choice for timber companies. Harwood is committed to creating value to its stakeholders.

Going forward and in line with its key diversification strategies, Harwood has ventured into the rubber nursery and eventually the rubber plantation business which are resources that are renewable.
